Why should I be baptized?

Baptism is a public declaration and celebration that you’ve decided to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Just as a wedding is a public display of love and commitment, baptism is a display of trusting your life to Him. It shows the world that your old life has ended and your new life with Him has begun!

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."   Matthew 28:19

What will happen?

When you are scheduled for baptism, we will have a change of clothes and sandals available for you to change into. If you prefer, you can go in the clothes you wore. You will be brought to the baptismal tank and step in along with a pastor and leader from your campus. The pastor will ask you if you have placed your faith in Jesus as your Savior? Once you say yes, they will help you cover your nose and mouth. They will then guide you backward into the water until you are fully submerged and then quickly bring you back up. The water is warm, and the process takes a few seconds.

Does being baptized get me into heaven?

No. The decision to place your faith in Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior is the only way to heaven. Through our love for Him and our obedience, we follow His direction to be baptized.

Does being baptized mean I'm a member of this church?

No. Baptism is not about joining a church, becoming a member, or signing up for something. It is between you and Jesus.

What if I'm not ready to be baptized?

When you have decided to give your life to Jesus, it should feel like a natural next step of love and obedience. That is a decision between your heart and the Lord. When you reach that point, you will know you are ready.

What if I was baptized as an infant?

As Christians we believe that baptism is about declaring you have chosen to follow Jesus. As an infant, someone with good intentions may have made that decision for you. However, following Jesus is a decision each person much make for themselves at the time they are ready.

What if my child asks to be baptized?

It is preferable not to baptize children before the age of 8. That age was determined by a child’s cognitive ability to understand and express the understanding of God, who Jesus is, and what He did for us through His death and resurrection. If your child has expressed that they have placed their faith in Jesus and would like to be baptized, and you are comfortable that they understand their decision, please connect with the GraceKids director at your campus. You may also email your campus directly with questions.
